Blue Ridge Mountain Cloggers

SOUTHERN JUNCTION CHAMPIONSHIPS

WILLIMSTON, SC -- April 14, 2012

Mountain Edition poses with a few of their awards that they received at the Southern Junction Championships. The tallest trophy is for being named Junior Division Overall Champion for their high energy hoedown.

A big thank you to Gwen Davis, the dancers and parents of Southern Junction Cloggers for hosting a very succesful and enjoyable competition this past year.  Credit goes to them for thinking outside of the box with the way the event was organized and for all of the many awards that they gave to the dancers.  A unique and innovative concept of no spectator charges made the event seem so much smoother and encouraged many friends and family to attend.

The dancers and teams of BRMC had a very successful competition with many awards being earned and a great time being had by everyone.  Our team dances were all successful with every team placing in the top 2 of their age and category.  Mountain Edition lead the way in the Junior Division by earning several awards.  The top award was being named overall champion in the Junior Division.  Oconee Bells earned top Pee-Wee team honors and Shady Grove was named as the champion Junior team of the Senior division.  Full details of all of the teams awards are listed below.

BRMC is gaining a reputation as a force to be reckoned with in the duo/duet section of clogging competitions.  This weekend proved to be very successful  for our duets and duos. We had first place winners in every division that we had entries in.  In some of them we had the top 2 places.  Christina and Joey earned Grand Champion duo/duet awards in this competition and have qualified for the duet championships at the Fall Maggie Valley competition.  Congratulations to all of our duos and duets for your hard work and for representing us so well.

Individually our dancers enjoyed a great deal of success as well with many call backs and placings.  It takes a lot of work and determination to do well in these competitions as well as a lot of nerve to put yourself out there in front of all the judges and the other dancers.

The solo competition also had it's shining moments as our dancers continue to perform well in this area.  Particularly in the traditional category where we had many of our dancers place and earn top 3 placings.  Joey McCannon was awarded Grand Champion male in the traditional category.  Destiny, Abbey and Sydney all won first in their age division and represented us very well in the female championship dance-off.  We are very proud of the hard work and dedication our dancers put into being the best they can be individually and as part of our team.  More solo results are listed in the table at the bottom of this page.

Abbey looks really surprised in her choreographed solo.  Great job Abbey in this and the other solo wins.  Sisters dancing side by side.  This was a really awesome moment.  So very proud of the job both of these ladies do representing us.

In a different twist, Southern Junction did not put duos and duets at the very end of the competition and boy did ours ever respond to this opportunity.  We had a really amazing day in this part of the competition with wins in almost every age and category we competed in.  Congratulations to Christina and Joey for winning overall Champion Duo / Duet here and for earning the right to compete in the World Championships at Maggie this October.

A really fun routine to watch with a lot of really neat stuff in it.  Besides having all of the good steps and near moves, it is just so plain to see that they just have a bunch of fun dancing together Keep your eyes on this traditional duo.  They are really starting to get it all together and the results are speaking for themselves.  1st place in some very stiff competition.

Long days at clogging competitions always have some special moments and some special ways to cope with the hurry up and wait of the day.  Here Stephanie shows her pillow friend.  I don't know that she ever really used it except to play with it!  The best thing about BRMC is the friends and the memories shared.
