Blue Ridge Mountain Cloggers

STOMPIN' GROUND CHAMPIONSHIPS

MAGGIE VALLEY, NC -- May 7, 2011

Mountain Thunder's new Prop's Exhibition Dance proved to be very popular with both the crowd and the judges.  Here they start their journey on to first place awards in this category.  We are looking forward to continued success from this dynamic routine.

There is something almost magical and mystical about dancing on the hardwood floors of the Stompin' Ground and our team always looks forward to competing at this venue in the spring when the grass is green and the crowds aren't nearly as crazy.  We had dancers new to our team dancing on this floor with us this spring and we had new dances making their first competition on this hallowed floor.  Much as the flowers of the spring break forth and show their colors our dancers blossomed and had a really good competition in many categories: As team dances, duos and solo dances.

The competition was an enjoyable event other than a few hiccups with music.  Our teams and dancers responded well by placing in 10 of the 11 team dances we were entered in.  6 of these teams placed first .  Several of our dances are now qualified for the World Championships in October.  Leading the way in the team competitions was Mountain Edition that earned first place awards in both Hoedown and Precision Categories.  Close behind them were Mountain Rhythm and Mountain Wildfire that each earned a first and second place award.  Thank to everyone that made these team dances so succesful.

Shady Grove Hoedown in the Championship Dance-off.  Many of the Mountain Wildfire Dancers had to go straight onto the stage immediately after their dance in the dance-off.  3rd runner-up overall team. Great Job after a hard day.   Mountain Wildfire continues to shine in Line Formation as well as Traditional Line Categories.  This group is dynamite and always does an amazing job.

After a very long day the last group to compete was our duos and duets.  They all did a remarkable job. We are truly proud of them for their perseverance and the skill and energy that they showed after several other dances.

Abbey & Callie  - Short Duo/Duet - 10 -12  - 2nd place

Allison & Kelley made their debut at the Stompin' Ground as well.  I can't think of a better place to unveil a really good dance...
Christina & Joey in the first competition with their new Buck & Wing Duet.  Great Job...Keep up the hard work.  Nicole & Stephanie out after only 2 practices---Wow what a way to start only going to get better.

So much of the best lessons learned are about being a good sport and working hard.  You just can't say enough about the group below and the job they did with their traditional line dance.  Even though the placings did not work out as we expected, these kids kept their heads up and never were critical.  Many adults could take a lesson here....The good placings will come around to them in time.
