Blue Ridge Mountain Cloggers

CAPITAL CITY CLOGGING CLASSIC

Columbia, SC -- February 11, 2012

Congratulation to our two solo champion winners!

Kelley Addington won Overall Champion Female Contemporary Solo and Joey McCannon was named Overall Champion Male Traditional Solo.  Great job by both of these two along with many other individuals and all of our teams and duets.   Just some of the many awards won by the dancers of Blue Ridge Mountain Cloggers.

Capital City Cloggers of Columbia, SC undoubtedly know how to sponsor a large, competitive clogging event.  This year the Capital City Clogging Classic lived up to all of the billing of previous years.  It has to be one of the largest, most competitive competitions of the season.  This years competition saw teams from 16 different studios from across both Carolinas, Georgia, Tennessee and Virginia.  There were 250 team dances by 385 dancers.  Quite a large and competitive event.  Our thanks to the dancers, parents and directors of Capital City Cloggers for sponsoring this event and for keeping it running so smoothly.  With such large numbers, it was still a very long day.  Last dance and awards were given a little past 1:00 AM.  But there were many moments and memories that we will keep with us for a very long time.

The commitment and dedication of our dancers and teams was rewarded by us receiving three championship awards and one very special team award.  The dancers of BRMC were awarded the SPORTSMANSHIP award over all teams for the whole day.  They were awarded this award for their willingness to support and help the other teams at the competition.  This award made us all very proud.  In addition to the solo championships that were earned by Kelley and Joey, Shady Grove was also the Overall Champion Junior team for the day.  They worked very hard and we are all so proud of them for coming through under some less than ideal circumstances for their team.  Other teams winning first place honors in their divisions and categories include: Oconee Belles - Traditional Line; Mountain Edition - Precision and Mountain Wildfire - Line Formation.

Shady Grove on the way to earning Overall Junior Champion team honors with an absolutely breathtaking performance of their traditional line routine.    The first competition for Oconee Belles new line routine.  These dancers will be a force to reckon with in the future. 3rd place in a large competition the first time out of the gate.  That was awesome.

Augusta shows some of her skills in the traditional solo category.  Our dancers were really sharp in the solo competition.  Unfortunately in such a large competition, everyone can't get recognized.  Callie really works hard at the clogging competitions and you can always count on her to put her all into solos whether it be for traditional or contemporary.

SOLO RESULTS

We should all be very proud of our solo dancers for persevering through a very long solo competition and representing us so well.  Although we did not have the number of dancers placing at this competition that we have it was a great day for many.  you could also tell when our dancers were there because they were always smooth dancers that had a smile on their face and showed great sportsmanship to their competitors.  A summary of our solo winners is below.

After a very long day the last group to compete was our duos and duets.  They all did a remarkable job. We are truly proud of them for their perseverance and the skill and energy that they showed after several other dances.  Abbey and Callie lead the way by placing first in all three categories.  Great Job.

Dancing should be about joy and fun and these two always make it a joy to watch.  Really proud of you, Sierra and Augusta. Keep it up.  Look Loretta, it is your favorite part and they are dead on.  Really proud of the job Allison and Kaitlin did with a relatively short time to practice and get this ready.

What happens to the director after a very long day of keeping the dancers and parents of BRMC in line.  Well sometimes you just have to take a little nap wherever you can grab it.  Thank you Loretta for all that you do.
